JOB TITLE: Project Assistant (Education and WASH)
LOCATION:  Aden, Yemen
CONTRACT DURATION:  6 months fixed term
START DATE:  ASAP
SALARY GRADE:  According to SIF’S National Staff Salary Scale

In Yemen, SIF implements programs to support vulnerable communities in different parts of the Country in various sectors.

General Description of the Position:

The Project Assistant (Education and WASH) supports the Project Officer in ensuring that Education and WASH projects are effectively planned, implemented, monitored, and reported in accordance with SIF and donor standards, procedures, and timelines., implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. The Project Assistant also ensures that cross-cutting themes such as protection, inclusion, gender, and accountability are integrated throughout the project cycle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Program Assistant shall be responsible for the following tasks:

A.    Project Development

  • Support in conducting needs assessments, baseline surveys, and data collection to identify Education and WASH needs in target communities and schools. 
  • Contribute to drafting project concept notes, proposals, budgets, and activity plans.
  • Assist in identifying priority intervention areas based on assessment findings and community feedback.
  • Participate in stakeholder consultations with education authorities, WASH committees, and community representatives to inform project design.

B.    Project Implementation

  • Assist in planning, coordination, and implementation of Education and WASH activities in assigned locations.
  • Support preparation of work plans, procurement plans, and activity schedules in coordination with the Project Officer.
  • Facilitate school-based interventions such as distribution of scholastic materials, rehabilitation of classrooms, and establishment of child-to-child clubs.
  • Support WASH infrastructure works including rehabilitation of water points, sanitation facilities, and distribution of hygiene materials.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Support awareness sessions on hygiene promotion, back-to-school campaigns, and inclusive education activities.
  • Ensure accurate and transparent beneficiary selection, verification, and registration processes.
  • Facilitate coordination with community leaders, school management committees, and government counterparts.

C.    Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Participate in field monitoring visits and assist in data collection, documentation, and feedback processes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of progress reports, success stories, and lessons learned.
  • Support Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) and activity evaluation in collaboration with MEAL staff.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of project records, reports, and beneficiary lists.
  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings and review workshops.

D.    Coordination and Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with field teams, local authorities, and implementing partners to ensure smooth coordination. 
  • Participate in cluster and sub-cluster meetings (Education/WASH) when required.
  • Support in organizing community sensitization sessions and training workshops for teachers, school committees, and volunteers.
  • Promote community engagement and ensure that beneficiaries’ feedback mechanisms are functional and responsive.

E.    Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to SIF’s safeguarding, child protection, and code of conduct policies at all times.
  • Participate in staff capacity-building sessions and contribute to continuous improvement of program quality.
  • Support logistics, procurement, and finance teams in verifying project-related documentation.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor that contribute to the achievement of project objectives.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Education, Social science or WaSH Engineering or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with international NGOs or humanitarian organizations in

Education or/and WASH project implementation.

  • Proven experience in community mobilization and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Experience in supporting project reporting, data management, and coordination with partners and authorities.

Technical Skills

  • Good understanding of Education in Emergencies (EiE) and WASH humanitarian standards (Sphere, INEE Minimum Standards).
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Good understanding of project cycle management (PCM) and monitoring tools.
  • Strong data organization, documentation, and reporting skills.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Fluency in Arabic good in English (spoken and written).

  • Child Safe-Guarding Policy. SIF commit to respect the “Do no harm” humanitarian principle and ensure child safety is paramount in all its activities. SIF implements a Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP), and implement all necessary measures to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with vulnerable people, in particular with children join the organization. This position is subject to criminal records disclosure and reference checks.
