Requirements for the position

Education:

  • Essentialial degree or diploma in Psychology 
  • Desirable master’s degree or diploma in clinical psychology.

Experience:    

  • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum asa Clinical Psychologist
  • Essential clinical experience working with people with severe mental disorders.
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries with equal or similar job positions.
  • Desirable previous experience in the management of psychotherapeutic and support groups

Languages:    

  • Local language essential
  • Mission language (English) desirable

Other:     

  • essential computer literacy (Word, Excel and Internet)

Description

  • Place of work: ABS Project – Abs district – Hajja governorate.
  • Level:    7
  • Duration: One-year contract with the possibility of extension. Subjected to a probationary period according to Yemen Labor Law.
  • Others: Salary: Based on the organization scale

Main objectives:    

Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards, and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health

Main responsibilities and tasks:    

  • Conduct psychological evaluations and establish diagnoses for patients of all age groups.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, including psychotherapeutic and pharmacological components in coordination with mhGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Program -trained Medical Doctors and psychiatrists.
  • Provide psychological support and psychotherapy (individual, family, group) in line with MSF protocols.
  • Inform patients and caregivers about mental health conditions, expected outcomes, and treatment processes.
  • Refer patients to other medical, psychiatric, or social services when needed to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Identify and manage patients at risk of suicide, including safety planning and close follow-up.
  • Identify and report patients who default from psychological sessions, coordinate with counselors or community contacts for tracing and re-engagement.
  • Design and facilitate Mental Health Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) group activities such as psychotherapy groups, psychoeducation, psychosocial support, trust-building, and psycho-stimulation.
  • Identify patients for group interventions, plan sessions, and evaluate outcomes in collaboration with the Mental Health Supervisor (MHS) and Mental Health Activity Manager (MHAM).
  • Provide on-the-job training and technical support to MSF staff, counselors, MoH ( ministry of Health ) staff, and other partners on psychological support and mhGAP.
  • Work closely with translators to ensure culturally appropriate and clear communication during therapy sessions.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case discussions, supervisions, and joint planning with other Mental Health and Psychosocial team members.
  • Collaborate with MSF and MoH medical staff to coordinate referrals and ensure integrated care for mental health patients with physical health needs.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all psychological activities (individual, family, and group), registers, and MSF's HMIS (Health Management Information system).
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of all patient information and records.
  • Collect and submit weekly reports and statistics to the MHS and MHAM, contributing to monitoring and evaluation.
  • Maintain effective communication with MHPS team members, medical staff, and other stakeholders to support coordinated mental health care delivery.
