Job Purpose                                                                                                                                                   

The Psychologist provides specialized mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to Persons with Specific Needs (PwSN) through individual and group interventions. The role supports the protection case management system by delivering Psychological First Aid (PFA), psychological assessments, counselling, and referrals, contributing to improved wellbeing, coping capacity, and protection outcomes

Key Responsibilities                                                                                                                                      

  • Provide individual and group counselling to PwSN, including persons with disabilities, unaccompanied elderly, and individuals with severe psychological distress.
  • Deliver Psychological First Aid (PFA) during home visits, outreach activities, and emergency situations.
  • Conduct basic psychological assessments to inform case planning and referrals.
  • Work closely with PwSN case workers to integrate MHPSS components into comprehensive case management plans.
  • Participate in case conferences for complex cases and provide technical recommendations.
  • Support care arrangements for PwSN with severe mental health conditions in coordination with specialized services.
  • Identify PwSN requiring specialized psychiatric or medical care and facilitate referrals to health partners.
  • Coordinate with health, protection, and legal actors to ensure a holistic response.
  • Follow up on referred cases to ensure continuity of care.         
  • Train and coach case workers and community outreach staff on PFA, basic psychosocial support, and safe referral practices.
  • Provide technical input on staff self-care and stress management.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential MHPSS case records in line with SOPs and data protection standards.
  • Contribute to protection monitoring, MHPSS reporting, and trend analysis.

Required Qualifications and Experience                                                                                                     

Education                                                                                                                                                       

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Master’s degree preferred)                                     
  • Licensed or accredited psychologist preferred                                                             

Experience                                                                                                                                                      

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in MHPSS or clinical psychology   
  • Experience working in humanitarian or protection settings                                                  
  • Familiarity with PFA, AGD approach, and UNHCR MHPSS frameworks

Skills                                                                                                                                                                

  • Strong counselling, assessment, and interpersonal skills                                  
  • Ability to work with vulnerable populations and high-stress cases                   
  • Cultural sensitivity and ethical practice                                                                

Languages

  • English is an asset .
