Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Country Sales Manager to lead and grow our commodity trading and distribution business in Somalia, based out of Berbera. The ideal candidate must be currently working in Somalia, possess strong knowledge of the local market, and be fluent in Somali language. Preference will be given to candidates of Yemeni origin, with a proven track record in commodity sales, particularly in food staples, agri-products, or general trade.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development
- Own and drive the country-level sales strategy for key commodities, ensuring alignment with regional goals.
- Identify, pursue, and close opportunities with distributors, wholesalers, government entities, and
- major buyers in Somalia.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, agents, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor pricing, competition, and market dynamics to make informed recommendations and decisions.
Team Leadership & Operations
- Set up, manage, and lead a local sales and support team (if applicable).
- Oversee day-to-day operations in Berbera related to sales, dispatch, warehousing, and customer support.
- Coordinate with supply chain and logistics to ensure timely delivery and fulfillment of orders.
P&L and Reporting
- Maintain full P&L responsibility for the Somalia market.
- Track sales KPIs, prepare weekly/monthly reports, and present business performance to the regional leadership.
- Ensure adherence to internal compliance, pricing policies, and credit risk procedures.
Market Insights & Intelligence
- Act as the go-to expert on the Somalia commodity market, including trends, regulatory changes, demand patterns, and political/economic factors.
- Provide real-time feedback to the head office on business risks, competitive landscape, and growth opportunities.
Candidate Profile:
Must-Have:
- Currently residing and working in Somalia, preferably Berbera or nearby regions.
- Fluency in Somali language is mandatory (spoken and written).
- 8-10 years of experience in B2B sales, distribution, or trading of commodities (e.g., sugar, rice, wheat, flour, edible oils, etc.).
- Strong network of buyers, traders, and market players within Somalia.
- Ability to work independently in a challenging, high-responsibility environment.
Preferred:
- Yemeni nationality with roots or existing networks in Somalia.
- Arabic and/or English communication skills.
- Previous experience in East African or Horn of Africa markets.
- Experience working with import/export documentation, port operations, and local customs procedures.
