Job title: Senior Grants Officer
Contract duration: 1 year renewable
Base of operations: Aden (with frequent travel to the field).

Position Summary
The Senior Grants Officer is responsible for overseeing the full grant cycle across SFD programmes, including proposal development, donor compliance, reporting, financial tracking, and coordination with programme and finance teams. The position ensures that all donor funded projects are implemented in accordance with donor requirements, SFD policies, and international development best practices.
The role requires strong analytical, writing, coordination, and financial oversight skills, with the ability to manage multiple grants simultaneously in a complex operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Proposal Development and Fundraising
- Lead the development of high-quality funding proposals in coordination with programme and technical teams.
- Support identification of funding opportunities aligned with SFD strategic priorities.
- Coordinate proposal calendars and submission timelines.
- Ensure proposals include clear results frameworks, budgets, and implementation plans.
- Maintain proposal documentation and donor communication records.
2. Grants Management
- Manage the full grant lifecycle from award to closeout.
- Ensure compliance with donor agreements, reporting requirements, and financial conditions.
- Maintain grant tracking systems covering budgets, deliverables, timelines, and risks.
- Coordinate grant startup and closeout processes.
- Monitor grant performance and flag risks or delays to management.
- Inform on the development of the grants management information platform.
3. Reporting
- Lead preparation of donor reports, including narrative and financial components.
- Ensure reporting accuracy, quality, and timely submission.
- Coordinate data collection with programme, finance, and M&E teams.
- Review reports to ensure alignment with project objectives and donor expectations.
4. Financial Oversight of Grants
- Monitor grant budgets in coordination with the finance team.
- Track burn rates and expenditure against approved budgets.
- Support budget revisions and donor modification requests.
- Ensure financial documentation meets donor audit requirements.
5. Donor Compliance and Coordination
- Ensure SFD compliance with donor rules, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate donor communications related to grants.
- Support donor audits, monitoring visits, and information requests.
- Provide guidance to programme teams on donor compliance requirements.
6. Internal Coordination
- Work closely with programme, finance, procurement, and M&E teams.
- Support capacity building of staff on grants management and reporting.
- Contribute to improving internal grants management systems and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in international development, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in grants management in development or humanitarian programmes.
- Proven experience in proposal writing and donor reporting.
- Experience managing multi donor funded projects.
- Experience in grant financial management and budget monitoring.
- Strong understanding of donor compliance requirements.
- Experience working with international development organizations or donor funded programmes.
