Purpose of the Position                                                                                                                

The Social Worker is responsible for case-by-case follow-up of asylum-seekers and refugees throughout the voluntary return, resettlement, or local integration process. The role focuses on identifying individual and household needs, ensuring access to appropriate support, and safeguarding dignity, safety, and informed decision-making at all stages of the process.

Key Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                                                    

  • Conduct individual and household case follow-up for persons of concern throughout the ASR process.
  • Identify protection risks, vulnerabilities, and evolving needs at different stages of the return or resettlement process.
  • Maintain regular contact with cases before, during, and after key procedural steps (counselling, documentation, movement, and arrival).
  • Ensure that all decisions related to return or resettlement are voluntary, informed, and documented.
  • Conduct needs assessments for each case, including protection, health, psychosocial, legal, shelter, and basic needs.
  • Raise identified needs to the ASR Officer and relevant teams for timely response and decision-making.
  • Facilitate referrals to internal and external services, including health, psychosocial support, legal assistance, documentation, and cash or in-kind support.
  • Follow up on referrals to ensure services are accessed and barriers are addressed.
  • Provide basic psychosocial support and counselling, particularly to individuals with heightened vulnerabilities.
  • Support individuals and families in understanding procedures, timelines, rights, and available assistance.
  • Identify cases requiring specialized mental health or protection interventions and refer accordingly.
  • Coordinate closely with the ASR Assistant on case lists, movement planning, and logistical arrangements.
  • Share updated case information with the ASR Officer to support planning and decision-making.
  • Participate in case conferences and internal coordination meetings as required.
  • Liaise with accommodation centers, outreach teams, and community focal points to support case follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case files, including assessment forms, follow-up notes, and referral tracking.
  • Ensure timely and accurate updating of case information in agreed tools and databases.
  • Contribute to case-based reporting and activity summaries as required.
  • Ensure strict adherence to data protection, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure accountability to affected populations by listening to concerns and feedback at the case level.
  • Identify and report protection concerns, safeguarding risks, or serious incidents through established internal mechanisms.
  • Uphold humanitarian principles, including dignity, neutrality, confidentiality, and do-no-harm.
  • Support the ASR team during peak movement periods, including presence at accommodation centers when needed.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the ASR Officer or management in line with the role.

Required Qualifications and Experience                                                                                                     

Education                                                                                                                                                       

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

Experience                                                                                                                                                      

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in social work, protection, or case management in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Experience working with refugees, asylum-seekers, or displaced populations is an asset.
  • Experience in psychosocial support and needs assessment is preferred.
