Mehad mission

Mehad is a French and international health and solidarity NGO established in 2011 by a group of doctors to address the urgent healthcare needs of populations affected by the war in Syria and neighboring countries. In 2022, Mehad expanded to Ukraine in response to the Ukraine war. Recently, Mehad has included Palestine and Yemen in its areas of intervention.

In early 2024, Mehad started to implement a health project aiming at supporting Lawdar Hospital in Abyan governorate. Since April 2026, Mehad is now implementing an 18-month project aimed at strengthening maternal and child health (MCH) in Yemen, with a particular focus on the governorate of Aden. The project targets the first 1,000 days of life, a critical window from pregnancy through a child’s second birthday, during which interventions have a decisive impact on nutrition, growth, immunity, cognitive development, and long-term health outcomes.
In a context marked by a fragile health system, shortages of qualified healthcare workers, and high maternal and neonatal mortality rates, the project prioritizes improving healthcare providers’ competencies.
