Accountant

  • Project Location : Yemen, Aden Gov. 
  • Based :  Aden office
  • Application Deadline :    05- JUL -2022

  • Duration of Initial Contract :  6 months with property of extension
  • Required number: 1 

Background

The Society for Humanitarian Solidarity (SHS) is a nonprofit humanitarian NGO based in the in Aden, Yemen. It was founded in 1995.The SHS provides assistance to refugees and migrants who arrive in Yemen every year. The organization also assists the local community in Yemen. The NGO won the Nansen Refugee Award, dedicated by the UNCHR. SHS has partnerships with UNCHR, OCHA, and WFP.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

1.    Advises clients in areas such as compensation, employee health care benefits, and the design of accounting or data processing systems.
2.    Analyzes operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
3.    Develops, implements, modifies, and documents recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
4.    Develops, maintains, and analyzes budgets, prepares periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
5.    Establishes tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
6.    Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
7.    Provides internal and external auditing services.
8.    Controls the disbursement of the budget items and monitors available cash.
9.    Signs checks and approves bank transactions along with other authorized persons.
10.    Reports to management regarding SHS’ finances.
11.    Conducts himself/herself both professionally and personally in a manner as to bring credit to SHS and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
12.    Performs other similar work assigned to her\him.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • A Bachelor of  degree is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of Accounting experience.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of MS Office – Excel, Word, etc. 
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills
  • Logical thinking with creative problem-solving ability
  • Great attention to detail
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Understanding of budget control
  • The ability to work well with others and lead a team
  • A good understanding of business
  • Technical skills relevant to the project
  • Good IT skills
