Water Quality Monitor

Division           : Programs.

Location          : Al-Dhale`a – Alazariq.

Reports to       : Field WASH Engineer/Project Manager.

Organization & Background:

A humanitarian, independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization that works across Yemen. The organization provides direct assistance for conflict-affected populations, IDPs, host communities and vulnerable groups in the conflict areas. The organization, in partnership with international agencies, takes action during crisis situations, and goes the extra mile to engage in other contexts where its competencies will add value. The organization promotes durable solutions for conflict-affected populations and helps to restore services, education, economic, wellbeing and health.

Job Purpose:

The water quality monitor is responsible for supporting the project team in the implementation WASH and water quality activities and providing training for beneficiaries. Also, supporting in the identification, design, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the progress of water sources quality monitoring activity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Train the water quality monitoring volunteers on methods of water quality testing.
• Supervising the water quality volunteers during the water test at the household level.
• Taking water samples from selected water sources according to standards.
• Sending water samples to accredited water testing laboratories and following up with the results of the tests.
• Collect, review, and document the reports of water quality monitoring volunteers.
• Monitor Water quality in Collective sites, Water sources, Water Points, and targeted households.
• Document results of testing and refer to Field WASH Engineer/Project Manager.
• Become familiar with water quality standards and testing procedures.
• Provide or undertake water treatment and assist Hygiene Promoters to assess the effectiveness of the intervention.
• Collect data/information about the water points and the lists of samples taken at water points and at HH and update them regularly.
• Participate in the formation of the water management committee.
• Input and update all data related to water quality and quantity for the water points and targeted households.
• Participate in a field-level needs assessment/survey/data collection of proposed community WASH and Non-WASH rehabilitation projects.
• Work with WASH engineers to draw up works tender documents and provide technical support to Bid Committees for all water quality activities.
• Conduct physical, chemical and bacteriological test on regular bases at the beginning of construction and end of construction.
• Conduct Physical and bacteriological test regularly for targeted HHs.
• Make some Analysis on the impact of rehabilitation/ construction of water sources by comparing the results before and after the intervention.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

• University degree or diploma.
• At least 2 years field working experience with local or international NGOs is required.
• Proven ability to organize activities and planning.
• Good report writing and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility, dynamism, and good organizational qualities.
• Computer skills Word and Excel desired.
• Language skills Arabic, English desired.
• Experience in WASH sector would be a distinct advantage.
• Good Knowledge of the project area and local dialect.
