Job Description 
 
The MEAL Assistant will be responsible for MEAL-related tasks and processes to improve project quality in the TDA project. S/he works under the direct supervision of the MEAL Manager and is responsible for conducting field monitoring, data collection, data entry, and supporting the analysis and reporting of project outcomes. The MEAL Assistant also assists in maintaining accountability mechanisms and promoting learning within the project. Based on the project site, the MEAL Assistant supports monitoring visits, surveys, assessments, and feedback mechanisms. S/he ensures proper documentation, sensitizes beneficiaries about their rights, and supports the project team in implementing effective learning and accountability systems. This includes, among other responsibilities
 
Duties and Responsibilities

Monitoring

  • Track activity implementation and output indicators collected by project teams.
  • Conduct field data collection and monitoring exercises as per MEAL plans, including regular visits to identify challenges and report for corrective actions.
  • Perform systematic data quality checks, cleaning procedures, and ensure consistent, accurate, and timely data transfer.
  • Support the MEAL Manager in monitoring project activities and progress against the project logframe and indicators and follow up on activities according to the project plan.
  • Lead distribution and post-distribution monitoring with targeted communities.
  • Update monthly tracking sheets and manage accurate and timely data collection, consolidating against output indicators from project sites

Evaluation

  • Assist in conducting assessments and evaluations to measure project outcomes and impact.

Accountability

  • Strengthen VHI accountability mechanisms at the district level by collaborating with the Complaints Response Mechanism Officer and acting as the CRM district focal point.
  • Support the implementation and establishment of feedback and complaint mechanisms (FCM) to ensure all stakeholders have equal opportunities to give feedback on the project.
  • Collect, document, and follow up on feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Promote accountability to beneficiaries through assessments and support field staff in developing information-sharing materials.
  • Ensure the correct use of various complaint channels and mechanisms.

Learning

  • Assist in organizing and facilitating learning events, workshops, and sessions to promote knowledge sharing and learning within the project.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices from project implementation.
  • Support field team meetings and compile/follow up on actions, providing positive and timely feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, statistics, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in MEAL, monitoring and evaluation, data collection, or related roles in development and humanitarian aid projects.
  • Excellent data collection.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic and very good in English.
  • Demonstrable commitment to gender-sensitive practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compliance with all relevant VHI policies and procedures, including child protection, workplace environment, and employee code of conduct.
