NMO is looking for an efficient and qualified person to fill the post of Protection & Legal Officer to carry out the following tasks
Tasks and Responsibilities :
- Supervise and provide technical support to the protection team, ensuring high-quality service provision and adherence to protection principles
- Facilitate regular team meetings to monitor progress, address challenges, and share updates on protection activities
- Coordinate with local authorities, humanitarian partners, and community representatives to address protection concerns effectively
- Represent the organization in protection-related coordination forums, including cluster meetings, and advocate for the needs of affected populations
- Supervise conducting assessments and identify HLP cases, including disputes, tenancy agreements, and eviction threats
- Support the legal assistant to provide legal counseling, representation, and mediation to resolve HLP-related issues
- Coordination with CCCM, Shelter, Protection, and WASH clusters for conducting intention surveys and land suitability assessments when alternative plots are identified for relocation
- Oversee the identification and verification of vulnerable individuals eligible for cash assistance under HLP case management
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to cash-for-protection guidelines
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of cash assistance in reducing protection risks and improving beneficiary well-being
- Lead the planning and implementation of rapid protection needs assessments in flood-affected areas
- Analyze assessment data to identify protection risks and prioritize interventions
- Collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to design and implement risk mitigation strategies
- Support the establishment and capacity building of CBPNs to strengthen community-based protection mechanisms
- Oversee awareness-raising activities on protection issues, including child rights, GBV, and legal documentation
- Facilitate referrals made by CBPNs and ensure timely follow-up on protection cases
- Coordinate with Mine Action AoR and deliver EORE sessions, focusing on risks heightened by flash floods
- Develop and distribute educational materials tailored to the local context
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of EORE activities in reducing risks and promoting community safety
- Prepare and submit high-quality reports on all protection activities, including progress updates, challenges, and recommendations
- Maintain accurate records of cases, assessments, and interventions to ensure accountability and transparency
- Provide regular updates to the Protection Manager and relevant stakeholders on project implementation
- Perform any other tasks that may be requested by the direct manager
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Experience and technical competencies (include years of experience)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in law, Social Sciences, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in protection, legal aid, or related fields, preferably in humanitarian settings
- Demonstrated experience in supervising teams and managing multiple protection activities
Skills
- Strong understanding of protection principles, including Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) considerations
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills
- Proficiency in data analysis and management tools
Competencies
- Commitment to humanitarian principles and the organization’s mission
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Willingness to travel to field locations and work in challenging environments
Preferred
- Familiarity with the context of Al Khukha district and its challenges
- Previous experience working with other protection-focused organizations
Must be willing to perform tasks as required by NMO and other partner agencies if relevant
