Job Title : Education Officer                                                                                                                                                                  

Reporting to :  Deputy Project Manager                                                                                                      

Location:  Aden with field visits to Kharaz Camp (Lahj) , Mukalla (Hadhramout)

Job Purpose                                                                                                                                                   

The Education Officer supports equitable access to quality formal education for refugee and asylum-seeking children by coordinating student support, teacher assistance, community engagement, and school-based protection mechanisms in line with MoE policies, INEE Minimum Standards, and Education Cluster guidance.                               

Key Responsibilities                                                                                                                                    

  • Coordinate provision of school supplies, uniforms, textbooks, and certificates for refugee and asylum-seeking students to support enrollment and retention.
  • Liaise with Ministry of Education (MoE) and school administrations to ensure alignment with national curricula, exams, and certification processes.
  • Coordinate the provision of monthly incentives for volunteer teachers, para-teachers, and education staff in line with INEE standards.
  • Oversee the distribution and effective use of teacher kits and classroom kits to improve teaching practices and learning environments.
  • Support and monitor teachers’ performance and classroom practices, ensuring inclusive, child-centered, and protection-sensitive approaches.
  • Coordinate teacher training, including pedagogy and MHPSS-in-Education, and support application of skills in classrooms.
  • Coordinate the implementation of Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN) and Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP) for 300 out-of-school refugee children.
  • Ensure BLN/ALP curricula are implemented in alignment with MoE-approved accelerated education frameworks.
  • Support the transition of BLN/ALP learners into formal education pathways.
  • Lead education awareness and enrollment campaigns, engaging parents, communities, and outreach volunteers, with focus on girls’ education.
  • Support establishment and strengthening of Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs).
  • Support the establishment and activation of school-based referral systems for protection services.
  • Coordinate with school social workers to identify students with protection concerns and facilitate referrals to specialized services (CP, PSS, health, legal).
  • Ensure follow-up and documentation of referrals throughout the school year.
  • Support the establishment and use of school-based data collection systems, including enrollment, attendance, and progression tracking.
  • Monitor activities, maintain education data, and contribute to donor and internal reporting.        

Required Qualifications and Experience                                                                                                 

Education                                                                                                                                                   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Teaching qualification or education management training is an asset.                                         

Experience                                                                                                                                                 

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in education programming, preferably in humanitarian or refugee settings.
  • Experience working with MoE, schools, and education authorities.     
  • Familiarity with Education Cluster, INEE Minimum Standards, and inclusive education approaches.
  • Experience supporting teacher training, community engagement, and school-based programming.

Skills                                                                                                                                                           

  • Strong coordination, communication, and organizational skills.        
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including authorities, schools, and communities
  • Knowledge of child protection, MHPSS, and inclusive education principles
  • Strong reporting and data management skills.                                                                 

Languages      

  • English required (spoken and written).
