Background
BCHR is a leading national non-governmental humanitarian agency with a global mission to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. BCHR is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aiming to provide health, nutrition, food security and protection services as a humanitarian response to the escalating socio-economic situation in Yemen since 2015.
The field Assistant will be under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Assistant will be responsible for developing proper monitoring and evaluation plans based on the major indicators of the project, to ensure relevant project activities are tracked and maintains monitoring and evaluation system to best measure the quality, progress and impacts (results) of all project activities. The position will be based in Taiz Office with frequently travel visits to the targeted areas.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Project Implementation and Field-Level Activities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for the project in the field.
- Conduct community mobilization, sensitization, and engagement to ensure local buy-in and participation.
- Assist in the identification, registration, and transparent selection of project beneficiaries based on established vulnerability criteria.
- Support and facilitate the distribution of agricultural inputs (e.g., seeds, tools, fertilizers) or livelihood assets (e.g., livestock, business kits) to beneficiaries.
- Organize and support training sessions for farmers and business owners on topics such as good agricultural practices, climate-resilient farming, post-harvest techniques, and business management.
- Provide technical support and guidance to beneficiaries on a day-to-day basis, including practical demonstrations and one-on-one counseling.
2. Data Collection, Monitoring, and Reporting:
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor the progress of project activities and the performance of beneficiaries.
- Collect and analyze data through various means, including surveys, focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews (KIIs), and post-distribution monitoring.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all project activities, beneficiary data, and distribution figures.
- Compile and submit regular reports (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly) on field activities, progress, challenges, and lessons learned to the supervisor.
- Contribute to the development of success stories and other narrative documents to showcase project impact.
3. Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaise and maintain good relationships with community members, local authorities, community committees, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other project team members to ensure the integration of activities and to share information.
- Participate in coordination meetings, workshops, and trainings as required.
- Assist in linking project beneficiaries to local markets, financial institutions, and other relevant services.
4. Administrative and Logistical Support:
- Provide administrative and logistical support for field activities, including preparing for trainings, meetings, and distributions.
- Assist in the procurement and transportation of materials and equipment for project activities.
- Ensure the proper handling and filing of all project documents.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, Economics, or Social Sciences.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-3 years of proven work experience in community development, livelihoods, and/or agriculture projects.
- Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or UN agencies is often preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in community mobilization, beneficiary selection, and data collection.
Technical Skills:
- Solid knowledge of agricultural practices and/or livelihood interventions.
- Good report-writing and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in data collection tools and basic computer applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel).
Soft Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and with diverse groups.
- Proactive, results-oriented, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure and in physically demanding situations in remote locations.
- A strong sense of integrity and a commitment to humanitarian principles.
Working Conditions:
- The position is primarily field-based and requires frequent travel to project sites.
- Willingness to work long hours and in challenging security contexts may be required.
