  • Reports to: NUTRITION HEALTH FACILITY ACTIVITY MANAGER

General Information on the Mission

PU-AMI’s Context & strategy: 

Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is an international, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious humanitarian organization which aims to provide rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity. PU-AMI provides assistance to more than 6 million people throughout 24 countries, with more than 2,500 staff worldwide.
PU-AMI adopts an integrated approach, to identify and understand the full array of the needs of the people affected by crises. This innovative approach is at the core of every PU-AMI-supported project, to better target and prioritize actions, stabilize and improve the situation of the most vulnerable groups. It allows the teams to take all aspects of a problem into account, to come up with an efficient combination of solutions, which will have a powerful and long-lasting impact on the affected populations. In this respect, the organization runs around 190 projects a year worldwide, most of which are focused on Health, Nutrition, Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Psychosocial Support, Education and Protection activities. 
In Yemen, PU-AMI is supporting 18 health facilities (Health Centers, Health Units and Therapeutic Feeding Centers) in four Districts in Hodeidah (Al Mighlaf, As Sukhnah, Al Mansuriyah and Al Qanawis), three Districts in Raymah (Bilad At Ta’am, Al Jabin and Mazhar) and two Districts in Taizz (Al Mokha and Mawza).
PU-AMI’s operations are managed by two field offices in Hodeidah and Mokha cities, both supported by the Sana’a coordination office. PU-AMI recently established a second coordination office in Aden. 
PU-AMI is participating actively in clusters and sub-clusters (health; nutrition; food security and livelihoods; WaSH) and works closely with relevant government departments.

Job Description

General Objective

The Health Education and Awareness Supervisor plays a key role in strengthening the link between households, community structures, and PU-AMI-supported health facilities. The position focuses on promoting positive nutrition practices, supporting behavior change efforts, and guiding Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and Community Health Educators/Workers (CHEWs) to deliver consistent and effective community outreach.
This role ensures that community-level activities are well planned, documented, and connected to facility-based nutrition services.

Tasks details and Responsibilities

A. Community Engagement & Behavior Change

  • Lead community outreach efforts using participatory and asset-based approaches that encourage local ownership of nutrition and health initiatives.
  • Promote essential nutrition, health, and hygiene messages through household visits, small-group sessions, and community gatherings.
  • Support the rollout of Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) activities that align with program objectives and community needs.

B. Capacity Strengthening of Community Actors

  • Facilitate practical training sessions for CHVs, CHEWs, and other community-level actors on nutrition promotion, referral processes, and use of IEC tools.
  • Identify capacity gaps and provide tailored coaching to enhance volunteer performance and motivation.
  • Contribute to the creation or adaptation of training and IEC materials to ensure cultural relevance and clarity.

C. Coordination of CHV/CHEW Activities

  • Organize monthly meetings with CHVs/CHEWs to review progress, challenges, success stories, and upcoming priorities.
  • Ensure allowances are processed in coordination with the Nutrition Activity Manager and that administrative documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain active communication with PU-AMI teams to harmonize community and facility-level efforts.

D. Data, Reporting & Monitoring

  • Collect and review CHV reports, ensuring timely data entry and verification of completeness and accuracy.
  • Share findings, trends, and observed challenges with the program team to contribute to adaptive and informed decision-making.
  • Support monitoring activities by conducting field visits, observing community sessions, and providing constructive feedback.

E. Strengthening Community–Facility Linkages

  • Follow up on referrals initiated by CHVs, ensuring that children and mothers reach the appropriate OTP site or health facility.
  • Track the progress of referred cases and communicate outcomes to volunteers for continuous follow-up.
  • Maintain close collaboration with health facility staff to ensure smooth case management pathways.

F. IYCF Support & Integration

  • Conduct regular visits to health facilities to observe and reinforce IYCF counseling practices.
  • Encourage coordinated community–facility approaches by linking mothers to group counseling, cooking demonstrations, and home follow-up.
  • Provide supportive supervision and guidance to facility and community actors to improve IYCF adoption and adherence.

G. Additional Duties

  • Remain flexible and proactively support other program tasks as needed to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Uphold PU-AMI values and ensure that all activities reflect humanitarian principles and accountability to affected communities.

  • Works  8 hours per day /five days per week.

  • Competency in CMAM (including community-level components)
  • Solid understanding of IYCF principles and counseling techniques
  • IMCI training
  • Training-of-Trainers (TOT) certification

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in community health, nutrition programming, or related fields
  • Nursing, midwifery, or similar medical background
  • Prior experience with international NGOs

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic understanding of nutrition services and primary healthcare workflows within community and facility settings, with the ability to support clients in navigating these services.
  • Good community mobilization skills, and ability to resolve individual and group conflicts.
  • Individual and group capacity building skills, good facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, humanitarian principles and minimum standards such as Red Cross Code of Conduct
  • Familiarity with community networks, traditions, and cultural practices in Hajjah Governorate. Comfort communicating in local dialects and adjusting messages to local norms

LANGUAGES    

  • Proficiency in Arabic, with the ability to communicate clearly with diverse community groups.
  • Basic working knowledge of English for reporting and internal communication.  

SOFTWARE    

  • Practical experience using standard computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry tools) to compile information and prepare simple reports.    

REQUIRED PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS (FITTING INTO THE TEAM, SUITABILITY FOR THE JOB AND ASSIGNMENT)

  • Strong understanding of community-based nutrition and health promotion approaches, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical guidance for households and community actors.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize communities, encourage participation, and create trustful relationships with families and local leaders.
  • Skilled in delivering training and coaching in simple, engaging ways that suit different literacy levels.
  • Capable of managing group dynamics, supporting dialogue, and addressing challenges faced by community volunteers.
  • Good command of humanitarian principles, especially accountability, inclusion, and respectful engagement with affected populations.
  • Sound organizational skills, with the ability to track activities, follow up on cases, and manage fieldwork independently.
