ACTED has been present in Yemen since early 2012 and has been anchored to the governorates of Ibb, Hudaydah, Raymah, Al-Dhalee, Saadah, Al-Jawf, Aden, Dhamar and Marib.
Through its comprehensive programming, ACTED has been covering the full continuum of emergency, rehabilitation and development in Yemen. Emergency activities have focused in the sectors of Agriculture & Food Security (e.g. distribution of crop seeds, and livestock), Economic Recovery and Market Systems (e.g. income-generating activities such as cash for work), and WASH (e.g. rehabilitation of water supply facilities, hygiene promotion). ACTED’s food security activities include the distribution of food vouchers, which are a key component of ACTED’s interventions in the country.

ACTED Organization is pleased to announce the below job vacancy with the following details:

Position: Project Assistant – Agronomist specialist
Department: Program
Location: Aldhalee
Contract Type: Fixed contract
Contract Duration: 6 months 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Implementation and Field Support 

  • Technical Design: Leading the technical design and reviewing the components of climate-smart agriculture, selecting appropriate crop varieties (drought-resistant and early-maturing), recommending soil fertility management plans, and developing water-efficient irrigation protocols tailored to the local agroecological area.
  • Supporting Bills of Quantities and Procurement: Preparing comprehensive bills of quantities and technical specifications for all agricultural inputs, tools, equipment, and infrastructure works (such as greenhouses and flood irrigation improvements). Conducting technical reviews and quality control of procured materials.
  • Capacity Building: Assist in developing and delivering field training courses for beneficiaries on improved agricultural practices, including but not limited to:
  • Climate-smart farming techniques.
  • Water use efficiency (e.g., drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting).
  • Integrated pest and disease management.
  • Sustainable land management (e.g., soil conservation, organic fertilization).
  • Demonstrations and Trials: Support the establishment and maintenance of demonstration plots or farmer field schools to showcase high-yielding, drought-resistant crops and best practices appropriate to the local climate.
  • Input Distribution Follow-up: Provide technical guidance and follow-up to beneficiaries receiving agricultural inputs (seeds, tools, fertilizers, and irrigation kits) to ensure proper use and maximize crop yields.
  • Data Collection: Systematically collect accurate data on agricultural activities (e.g., attendance records, harvest yields, crop health) using both paper and digital tools.

Project Implementation:

  • Implement the activities on the field as agreed with the Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/ Project Manager.
  • Ensure community acceptance of the project through positive interactions and clear communication to beneficiaries and communities in the field.
  • Takes into consideration the MEAL’s recommendations as communicated by the Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with contractors as requested by the Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/ Project Manager 
  • Implements Acted complaints and feedback mechanism (CFM) as agreed with MEAL and Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/ Project Manager.
  • Assists the Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/ Project Manager in the appropriate documentation of the project activities.
  • Perform any additional tasks as requested by the line manager, in accordance with project’s objectives, meeting agreed humanitarian standards, according to Acted strategy and contractual requirements.

Reporting

  • Provide regular and timely report on the activities implemented for the Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with database team to ensure the data entry 
  • Documenting and sharing lessons learned, success stories, and visual evidence from the field, with a focus on sustainable practices and the ability to adapt to climate change as identified in the field and by PD team.
  • Reports ideas and information from project staff or field visits, which may assist in future project proposals. Such information will be included in reports.

Team Management

  • Manage a team of daily workers
  • Ensures all activities are in line with general protection principles as relevant, including maintaining confidentiality of beneficiaries and colleagues and consideration of gender concerns.

Meetings / Coordination

  • Coordinate with project colleagues
  • Participate in external coordination meetings as requested by Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/Project Manager.
  • Organize and participate in external meetings with community leaders and cooperatives, as requested by Project Officer/Senior Project Officer/Project Manager.
  • Participates in internal and external trainings as requested.

Security & Liaison

  • Considers safety and security in the field for the team and the beneficiaries
  • Immediately report all incidents to the project Officer/Senior Project Officer/Project Manager, security department and coordination.

Job Requirements (Qualification and Experience)

1.    Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Crop Science, or a closely related field, accompanied by specialized training in Climate-Smart Agriculture or NRM.
2.    Minimum 2-3 years of relevant professional experience working on agricultural and smart-agriculture projects, preferably with an INGO or NGO in Yemen.
3.    Strong working knowledge of local Yemeni crops, soil types, and water management techniques. 
4.    Fluency in written and spoken Arabic (local dialects preferred). Good working knowledge of written and spoken English.
5.    Excellent communication, facilitation, and training skills with rural communities. Ability to work independently, travel frequently to remote field locations, and flexible, with the ability to cope with stressful situations 
6.    Excellent team-working skills.
7.    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel...) and basic data collection (e.g., Kobo software).
