Background

BCHR is a leading national non-governmental humanitarian agency with a global mission to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. BCHR is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aiming to provide health, nutrition, food security and protection services as a humanitarian response to the escalating socio-economic situation in Yemen since 2015.

The Protection Assistant - implements sessions in beneficiary gathering centers, in line with the Protection Action Plan and in coordination with service providers.

Reporting to : The report is submitted to the PM – Project Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES 

• Carry out appropriate monitoring and evaluation of protection activities
• Supervise the collection of data and statistics of daily activities in the exchange center and mobile units, when appropriate, and report them, and participate in team meetings to exchange experiences and discuss special cases with the social worker and project manager.
• Providing advice to beneficiaries who need help and support from the project team
• Conduct regular focus group discussions and community meetings in the field to assess the needs of beneficiaries
• Work with the team to implement gender mainstreaming and protection in all programs and activities and record individual cases that require intervention in the field of gender-based violence in the field.
• Participate with the project official in raising awareness about the generalization of protection and gender, training on protection from exploitation, and facilitating the holding of these sessions.
• Planning and implementing awareness sessions for beneficiaries and conducting focused discussion sessions on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse and gender-based violence.
• Contribute to the development of plans to facilitate awareness-raising sessions for beneficiaries (adults and adolescents) in beneficiary gathering centers, in line with the protection action plan.
• Provide regular oral and written reports regarding ongoing activities, data collected and cases identified or monitored to the Project Manager
• Accompanying the distribution teams in the field to provide awareness sessions within the community explaining the mechanism for submitting complaints in cases of sexual exploitation and abuse.
• Any other work assigned to him within his competence.

Required Qualification & skills:

• University degree/certificate in social sciences, business administration or other related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
• At least 3 years of experience (one year for university degree holders) in a similar position, with a good understanding of the social and political context in Yemen
• Supervisory experience in a complex work environment.
• Understanding of standards and practices in the protection and assistance of migrants.
• Understanding of protection principles and experience in humanitarian emergency response.
• Previous professional experience with a humanitarian organization is required.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Good level of knowledge of information technology (MS. Word & Excel)
