Position Title: Protection Field Coordinator
Location: Khanfar District, Abyan Governorate (Field-based)
Reports to: Protection Program Manager / Project Manager
Contract Type: Full-time
Duration: 9 months
The National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NAHR) is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established June 2012 in Yemen. We aim to achieve our overall vision and mission by working to enhance local communities' development and stability through identifying structural causes of poverty, raising awareness, increasing access to basic services, and focusing on building citizens' capacities, especially women and youth, so as to enable their participation in the decision-making process that leads to sustainable development and a peaceful society within their developing and conflict-affected countries. NAHR aims to accomplish these goals through its seven core programs: Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL); Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH); Health and Nutrition; Education; Gender and Protection; Shelter and Non-food items (NFIs); and Peacebuilding and Governance.
In the process of recruitment, selection, and appointment NAHR implement a range of procedures and actions including Criminal Background Checks/ International vetting/Certificate of good conduct to ensure children and vulnerable adults are safeguarded and abuse is prevented.
NAHR has zero tolerance on sexual exploitation and abuse. All employment offers are conditional upon the receipt of satisfactory references and the signing our code of conduct, Safeguarding Policy with a particular focus on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Child Safeguarding. This position will also be subject to robust reference and background screening checks.

1. Background
The Protection Field Coordinator in Khanfar is responsible for the daily on-the-ground implementation, oversight, and quality assurance of all protection interventions within the district. A primary focus of this role is to establish, manage, and supervise the Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) integrated within supported health facilities. The coordinator ensures the safe, confidential, and high-quality delivery of psychosocial support, case management, referral pathways, and community-led protection awareness, while maintaining strict adherence to humanitarian protection principles and gender-based violence (GBV) guiding principles.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. WGSS Management & Integrated Protection Oversight
- Oversee the daily operations and management of the Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) established within or alongside the supported health facilities in Khanfar district.
- Ensure that the WGSS provides a welcoming, non-stigmatizing, and secure environment where women and adolescent girls can access services, build social networks, and receive support.
- Support the field-level integration between health, nutrition, and protection sectors, ensuring smooth, confidential, and safe two-way referral pathways between clinical staff and protection staff.
- Supervise the delivery of comprehensive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities, recreational initiatives, and life-skills/empowerment curricula within the safe spaces.
2. Case Management & Safe Referrals
- Ensure that specialized services—including GBV case management, psychosocial first aid (PFA), and legal or medical counseling—are delivered in strict compliance with international minimum standards.
- Monitor case files and databases to guarantee absolute data confidentiality, safety, and survivor-centered approaches.
- Update and maintain the local mapping of protection and humanitarian service providers in Khanfar and Abyan governorate to facilitate accurate and timely external referrals.
3. Community Mobilization & Outreach
- Supervise protection outreach teams, community mobilizers, and community committees in Khanfar to conduct safe and inclusive protection monitoring and awareness campaigns.
- Coordinate the distribution of protection-related awareness materials, community outreach assets, and dignity kits to targeted women and vulnerable girls.
- Adapt outreach strategies to ensure meaningful access for marginalized groups, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
4. Capacity Building & Personnel Supervision
- Line-manage, mentor, and evaluate the performance of field protection staff, including WGSS supervisors, social workers, psychologists, and facilitators.
- Coordinate and support technical training sessions for protection staff and integrated health workers on topics such as:
- Psychological First Aid (PFA) and MHPSS basic skills.
- Protection Principles, Safe Referrals, and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
- GBV Guiding Principles (Safety, Confidentiality, Respect, and Non-discrimination).
5. Coordination, Monitoring & Community Mediation
- Represent the organization at the field level in district-level protection working groups, sub-clusters, and coordination meetings in Khanfar/Abyan as requested.
- Maintain strong, professional linkages with local community leaders, local authorities (DHO and local authorities), and women-led groups to ensure community acceptance and smooth project delivery.
- Proactively address operational bottlenecks or sensitivities surrounding protection programming through culturally appropriate community mediation and continuous stakeholder engagement.
- Participate in regular monitoring and tracking visits alongside Programming and M&E staff to audit data quality and measure project protection outcomes.
6. Reporting & Information Management
- Consolidate, analyze, and submit high-quality weekly and monthly field protection reports, outreach logs, and narrative updates to the Protection Program Manager.
- Ensure all data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, GBVIMS if applicable) are used safely and ethically, focusing on trends and gaps to inform adaptive programming.
- Document lessons learned, field challenges, and success stories that highlight the impact of the integrated protection services.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: University degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Rights, International Development, or a related social science field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional field experience implementing protection, GBV, or psychosocial support programs in humanitarian, emergency, or post-conflict settings (experience within Abyan Governorate or Khanfar district is highly desirable).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of protection principles, GBV minimum standards, survivor-centered approach, and the operational guidelines for Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS).
- Skills: Outstanding communication, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills. Proven capability to manage field teams and handle community-level negotiations and mediation regarding sensitive protection matters.
- Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory; professional proficiency in English is required for drafting technical reports and coordination correspondence.
- IT Skills: Strong competency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and secure mobile data collection systems.
