Background

Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development known as (JAAHD) is a National and Non-Governmental Association emerged in wake of the humanitarian crisis to help communities affected by conflict in Yemen. It provides emergency relief and direct assistance for the conflict-affected populations, IDPs, host communities, vulnerable groups and those people caught up in extraordinary life-threatening situations. JAAHD has a presence in Al Hudaydah, Hajjah, Almahweet, Raymah & Ibb with the aim of building up protection capacities for people in displacement and finding durable solutions for them upon return.

General Summary:

The Psychologist will deliver specialized mental-health and psychosocial support (PSS) services—including Psychological First Aid (PFA), trauma counseling, and structured group interventions to individuals, enhancing resilience and reducing stigma.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Identify and verify cases that need psychosocial support according to the vulnerability criteria.
  • Provide on-the-spot PFA during emergencies, conduct rapid psychological risk assessments, and ensure immediate safety referrals.
  • Deliver tailored individual counseling sessions using trauma-informed methods for children, women, elderly, and PWDs.
  • Design and facilitate PSS sessions (e.g., coping skills, art therapy); track attendance and feedback.
  • Map and maintain a directory of mental-health and psychosocial service providers; develop clear referral pathways.
  • Train and mentor Social Workers, Protection Monitors, and community volunteers on PFA, stress-management, self-care, and burnout prevention.
  • Develop quick-reference guides for PFA and PSS interventions in Arabic.
  • Collect pre- and post-intervention baseline data; analyze changes in psychosocial wellbeing indicators.
  • Coordinate with local health actors to integrate PSS referrals and track service uptake.
  • Prepare monthly narrative reports with case studies, lessons learned, and recommendations for project adaptation.
  • Establish peer-support networks among beneficiaries (e.g., mothers’ support groups), train volunteer facilitators, and monitor group cohesion.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, social work, counseling or closely related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in humanitarian mental-health service delivery.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with case management principles, standards and procedures, including relevant roll-out of SOPs for different protection typologies.
  • Empathy, active listening, and professional boundaries.
  • Expertise in trauma-informed care and group facilitation.
  • Ability to provide technical support, trainings and supervision to staff.
  • Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of JAAHD.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, observation and analysis capacity.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven and excellent sense of organization.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with PSEA, AAP best practices, and “do no harm” principles.
  • Arabic fluency; English proficiency is an asset.
  • High cultural sensitivity and commitment to inclusive, community-driven approaches.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
