PU-AMI: Mission, Reach, and Operations
Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is an international, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious humanitarian organization which aims to provide a rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity. PU-AMI provides assistance to more than 6 million people throughout 24 countries, with more than 2,500 staff worldwide. PU-AMI adopts an integrated approach to identify and understand the full array of the needs of the people affected by crises. This innovative approach is at the core of every PU-AMI-supported project to better target and prioritize actions, stabilize and improve the situation of the most vulnerable groups. It allows the teams to take all aspects of a problem into account, to come up with an efficient combination of solutions, which will have a powerful and long-lasting impact on the affected populations. In this respect, the organization runs worldwide around 190 projects a year, most of which are focused on Health, Nutrition, Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Psychosocial Support, Education and Protection activities. PU-AMI is participating actively in clusters and sub-clusters (health; nutrition; food security and livelihoods; WaSH) and works closely with relevant government departments.
Scope of Work and Core Responsibilities
Overall Objective
Under the direct management of the Health and Nutrition Project Manager and with the technical supervision of the MHPSS Manager, the Senior PSS Technical Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring high-quality psychosocial support activities within the Mother and Baby Corner (MBC) and other PSS corners in therapeutic feeding centers and Health Facilities (HFs). This includes:
- Supervising and supporting MBC and PSS staff to ensure effective, qualitative and safe delivery of activities.
- Monitoring mother–child and general PSS activities, ensuring alignment with PU-AMI standards and humanitarian best practices.
- Collaborating with health and nutrition teams to integrate PSS interventions into broader services.
- Ensuring timely and accurate reporting (internal and external) on all PSS activities to the coordination team.
- Contributing to the development and adaptation of activities to respond to the evolving needs of beneficiaries
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Supervise and provide technical support to the mother and baby corners’ nurses and PSS staff to ensure quality services are provided
2. Monitor the PSS and MBCs activities with the support of the MHPSS Program Manager;
3. Collect MBCs and PSS reports and ensure data entry
4. Conduct trainings and monthly meetings with MBCs and PSS corners staff
5. Participate to regular meetings with the MHPSS Program Manager
Specific Goals and Related Activities
1. Supervise and provide technical support to Mother and Baby Corner (MBC) and PSS Corners MOH staffs
- Supervise MBC and PSS Corner teams in the implementation of activities, ensuring that activities are delivered according to approved guidelines, activity plans, and technical standards.
- Provide regular technical guidance, coaching, and supportive supervision to MBC nurses, psychologists/counselors, and other PSS staff, as well as support to health and nutrition teams regarding MHPSS-related practices.
- Ensure that the MOH PSS nurse and the psychologist consultant have all necessary tools to implement adapted and qualitative MHPSS activities.
- Ensure the quality of services and adherence to protection principles, particularly the "Do No Harm" approach, confidentiality, safety, and dignity.
- Contribute to the development and adaptation of MBC and PSS Corner activities according to beneficiaries’ needs, with the support of the MHPSS Manager.
- Identify beneficiaries’ needs and recommend improvements to enhance the relevance, accessibility, and quality of psychosocial support services.
- Promote coordination and collaboration between MBCs, PSS Corners, and health and nutrition services within Therapeutic Feeding Centers (TFCs) and Health Facilities (HFs).
2. Monitor the implementation of PSS activities within MBCs and PSS Corners
- Ensure daily monitoring of MBC and PSS Corner activities, including data collection on beneficiary participation, engagement, and satisfaction.
- Conduct regular follow-up and supervision of MBC and PSS Corner activities through direct observation, co-facilitation, and supportive supervision using standardized supervision tools.
- Submit supervision findings and recommendations to the MHPSS Program Manager on a monthly basis.
- Ensure that logistical and material needs for MBC and PSS Corner activities are identified and addressed in coordination with the MHPSS Manager, logistics, and health departments.
- Ensure effective integration of MBC and PSS Corner activities within health and nutrition services and promote appropriate communication and awareness among beneficiaries.
- Ensure safe identification, assessment, and referral of beneficiaries requiring focused or specialized MHPSS services.
- Ensure effective internal referral pathways between MBCs, PSS Corners, Health, Nutrition, and other relevant departments.
- Conduct regular follow-up meetings with the MHPSS Manager to review progress, challenges, and program needs.
- Ensure timely and accurate written reporting on all MHPSS activities (MBC and PSS Corners) to the coordination team on a regular basis.
- Analyze collected data to inform program improvements and adapt activities to beneficiaries’ needs
3. Data Management, Monitoring and Reporting
- Ensure regular monitoring of data collection processes and proper use of beneficiary registration forms, activity records, and reporting tools.
- In coordination with the MEAL Department and MHPSS Program Manager, ensure timely and accurate data entry into MBC and PSS databases.
- Regularly review MHPSS monitoring and database tools to ensure they remain relevant, practical, and user-friendly, while streamlining data collection processes and minimizing duplicate reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality protocols at all times.
- Produce internal monthly activity reports, including quantitative and qualitative analysis of MBC and PSS Corner activities, achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
- Contribute to external stakeholder reports (donors, authorities).
- Contribute to field assessment launched by the PM, ensuring that the MHPSS data are accurate, update and reflecting the needs from the field.
- Analyze the produced data to suggest evolutions of the MHPSS intervention’s strategy.
4. Staff capacity strengthening and technical support
- Identify capacity-building needs of MBC nurses, psychologists, PSS facilitators, and health and nutrition staff, and report them to the MHPSS Program Manager.
- With the support and validation of the MHPSS Program Manager, conduct training, mentoring sessions, refresher trainings, and on-the-job coaching for MBC and PSS staff.
- Provide MHPSS-related capacity-building support to Health and Nutrition teams.
- Conduct regular coordination meetings with MBC and PSS staff to discuss challenges, share lessons learned, and strengthen collaboration across departments.
5. Coordination, representation and referral management
- Regularly communicate with the MHPSS Program Manager regarding program implementation, operational challenges, staff support needs, and beneficiary concerns.
- Report complex cases and seek technical guidance, particularly for cases requiring specialized mental health care or external referrals.
- Communicate any security incidents or concerns affecting MBC or PSS Corner activities and staff.
- Participate in internal meetings at field level as required.
- Represent the MHPSS component in relevant technical working groups, cluster meetings, and coordination forums when requested by the MHPSS Program Manager.
- Prepare and regularly update the mapping of MHPSS actors in the West Coast
6. Communication and visibility
- Ensure the donor and PUI visibility in MBC and PSS Corner activities within Stabilization Centers and Health Facilities through appropriate communication materials.
- Design IEC material to support MHPSS activities
- Promote awareness of all psychosocial support services among beneficiaries, caregivers, and the community.
- Foster understanding of the MBC and PSS Corner approaches among beneficiaries, health and nutrition teams, and relevant stakeholders.
- Support effective communication about psychosocial activities to enhance participation, engagement, and integration with other services.
7. Humanitarian Principles
- Ensure that all PSS activities, including Mother and Baby Corners and PSS Corners, adhere to Protection Principles, including Do No Harm, safety, and the dignity of affected people at all times
- Ensure that MBC and PSS Corner services comply with humanitarian standards, IASC recommendations for MHPSS interventions, and respect PU-AMI’s MHPSS Intervention Framework.
- Promote an environment where beneficiaries feel safe, respected, and supported, and ensure that all staff are aware of and implement protection and ethical standards in their work.

- Support the MHPSS manager at coordination when needed
- Be aware of the security rules and social and political situation in the field at any time
- Provide feedback on security issues or any important information you might have involving security of the teams and/or the beneficiaries to your direct line manager
- Mainstream of protection principles and standards throughout all actions;
- Ensure high level of confidentiality and ethics throughout the actions;
- Ensure PU-AMI MHPSS guidelines are followed and clinical & quality standards are met;
- Ensure internal PU-AMI Code of Conduct is respected at all times.
