Organizational Background
Society for Humanitarian Solidarity (SHS) is a nonprofit humanitarian NGO based in Yemen. It was founded in 1995. SHS, winner of the Nansen refugee award in 2011, for its dedicated work in providing the assistance to refugees and migrants who arrive in Yemen. SHS is a trusted implementing partner to more than 5 international organizations operating in Yemen.
SHS has built a strong career and trust among the local community and the international organizations through its tenure in providing assistance to the IDPs and most vulnerable groups.
Job Purpose / Objectives
The Community Outreach Worker serves as a vital link between humanitarian organizations and the communities they serve. This role focuses on raising awareness, facilitating participation, promoting access to services, and supporting the implementation of programs to meet community needs. The Outreach Worker helps ensure that community voices are heard, needs are addressed, and protection principles are upheld.
Key Responsibilities

Facilitate internal and external referrals, including follow-up in the field.

Support and regularly follow up with community committee members at the field level.

Assist in awareness-raising and activities.

Serve as a trusted link between the community and humanitarian actors to report protection concerns, risks, or incidents.

Identify vulnerable individuals or households and refer them to appropriate protection services.

Participate in regular CBPN meetings and share observations about protection trends in the camp.

Raise awareness within the community about protection issues, safety, rights, and available services.

Assist in monitoring and documenting protection incidents, trends, and community needs.

Support community-based initiatives to prevent and respond to protection risks.

Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.

Cooperate with other CBPN members, camp leaders, and humanitarian staff to strengthen the network’s effectiveness.

Collect and compile data related to project activities for reporting purposes.

Organize and coordinate interventions within the camp and follow up on community needs.

Act as a contact point between the community and organization.

Ensure complaints and feedback from CBPN members are processed through designated feedback channels and reported to the Accountability Officer in a timely manner, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for complaints and feedback management and case management system.

Prepare reports summarizing needs, and stressors.

Uphold integrity, confidentiality, and non-discrimination in all activities and interactions.

Follow up on team activities and ensure the quality and accuracy of forms and data collection.

Prepare weekly and monthly reports as required.
Requirements / Qualifications

Diploma or University degree in Social Work or a related field.
-
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in community-based work, particularly in complex field environments.

Excellent listening, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Previous experience working with civil society organizations and community groups.

Strong computer skills, including word processing and basic data management tools.

Commitment to humanitarian principles, protection guidelines, and confidentiality.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse community members.

Knowledge of referral mechanisms, protection issues, and community engagement is an advantage.
Working Conditions

Volunteer position within IDP camps.
-
Field-based with regular interaction with community members and humanitarian staff.
-
May require attending trainings, workshops, and occasional community activities.
