SUMMARY:

The Health and Nutrition Officer is responsible for the implementation, supervision, and monitoring of all health and nutrition activities at facility and community levels. The role ensures that high-quality services are delivered in line with national and international standards, contributing to the Project’s goal of providing an integrated health and nutrition response. The officer will coordinate closely with health facility staff, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), and the District and Governorate Health Offices (DHOs/GHOs) to strengthen service delivery, reporting, and referral pathways. He/she will also ensure that maternal, newborn, child health (MNCH), and nutrition services are well integrated with other project components such as MAMI, ICCM, Referral, and SBC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The “Health and Nutrition Officer” will be responsible but not limited to:

  • Plan, implement, and oversee all health and nutrition activities in assigned facilities and communities under the Project, ensuring timely and quality service delivery.
  • Provide technical support to facility-based health workers, CHVs, and CMWs to ensure adherence to national guidelines (IMAM, IYCF, MAMI, EPI, and RH).
  • Monitor and supervise health facility performance, ensuring effective integration of curative, preventive, and promotive health services.
  • Ensure health and nutrition service data are collected, analyzed, and reported accurately using approved tools and information systems (DHIS2, nutrition reporting forms).
  • Work closely with DHOs and GHOs to coordinate activities, strengthen reporting mechanisms, and improve referral linkages between community and facility levels.
  • Coordinate with ICCM, MAMI, Referral, and SBC Officers to ensure harmonized implementation and integration of activities across the continuum of care.
  • Support and monitor the delivery of essential medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and nutrition commodities to supported facilities.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions for health staff and CHVs on health and nutrition topics, including case management, IYCF, and emergency referral procedures.
  • Conduct regular field visits to health facilities to ensure quality assurance, mentoring, and on-the-job coaching of facility staff.
  • Support community mobilization and behavior change initiatives in collaboration with the SBC Officer to improve service uptake and awareness.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) summarizing progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in joint supervision visits and review meetings with health authorities, UN agencies, and partner organizations to promote coordination and learning.
  • Ensure safeguarding, gender equity, disability inclusion, and accountability principles are integrated into all project activities.
  • Adhere to the organization’s safeguarding framework, including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), child protection, anti-harassment, and ethical conduct policies, ensuring alignment with international standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard, UN CRC).
  • Promptly report safeguarding concerns or violations through designated channels, maintain confidentiality, and participate in mandatory safeguarding training to uphold a safe, inclusive environment for all stakeholders.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Health and Nutrition Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree in health & nutrition or equivalent; (nursing, midwifery, and other Medical qualifications desirable) from any recognized institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in health/nutrition programming with at least 3 years of experience in health/nutrition or related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of public health, nutrition, and primary healthcare systems.
  • Strong technical expertise in maternal and child health, IMAM, IYCF, and MAMI approaches.
  • Proven experience in supervising and mentoring health facility staff and community volunteers.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with health data systems (DHIS2).
  • Commitment to humanitarian values, safeguarding, and professional ethics.
  • Having experience with ADRA is preferable and adds value
