Responding to all areas of humanitarian sectors, BFD aspires to provide an integrated humanitarian and development response to conflict-affected areas through a professional, neutral, transparent approach, and through adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
MAIN PURPOSE: To contribute to the implementation of agricultural and non-agricultural livelihood activities by providing technical and logistical support to beneficiaries, strengthening market linkages, and developing the beekeeping sector, thereby improving food security and increasing household income for targeted communities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordination with all the local authorities' offices concerned with the project.
- Work as technical lead for the project (farmers, beekeeping) within the targeted areas.
- Supervision and monitoring as a field team leader for the project.
- Holding participatory meetings with the target communities to determine their problems and solutions (Community-Based Participatory Planning).
- Participate in the need assessment within the targeted areas.
- Support livelihood development activities on farms through training, provision of inputs, and strengthening market linkages.
- Working to improve agricultural and beekeeping productivity and profitability of smallholder production systems.
- Establish field schools for beekeeping and organize practical training programs.
- Organize refresher/training courses for extension staff in community-based agricultural extension focusing on cereal crop production.
- Supervise the establishment and implementation of demonstration plots.
- Oversee the procurement and distribution of essential seeds (wheat, sorghum, sesame, peanuts).
- Supervise the procurement and distribution of agricultural tools (Small agricultural tools).
- Oversee the procurement and distribution of beekeeping tools and equipment.
- Supervise conducting germination test.
- Supervise the provision and distribution of additional cash support to beneficiaries.
- Supervise and follow up with extension staff during awareness sessions for beneficiaries on best agricultural practices in cereal crop production.
- Participate in the selection of beneficiaries according to project criteria.
- Supervise training of beneficiaries on modern beekeeping techniques, advanced honey production methods, utilization of non-honey products, value addition, marketing, and safe practices.
- Organize refresher/Training for CAHWs to respond to livestock health needs.
- Supervise and follow up with community animal health workers in the beekeeping sector for four months.
- Form informal livelihood groups for each type of small business.
- Organize awareness meetings or mini-workshops for group members to exchange experiences.
- Conduct workshops for beneficiaries (small business owners) with entrepreneurs and extension service providers.
- Link small businesses to markets and extension services to ensure sustainability.
- Weekly periodic field visits to all (group) sites in order to follow up on the project activities implementation and mitigate challenges within the field.
- Supervising the field team and assigning roles, responsibilities, accountability, and reporting.
Required Qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related field.
- At least three years of practical experience in livelihood or agricultural development projects prior experience with humanitarian or development organizations (NGOs/INGOs) is preferred.
- Practical experience in cash distribution activities.
- Practical experience in modern beekeeping techniques and bee health.
- Practical experience in agriculture, beekeeping, and livelihood development.
- Experience in establishing agricultural and beekeeping production groups.
- Previous supervisory experience in agricultural production, beekeeping, and livelihood projects.
- Previous experience in team leadership and similar projects.
- Basic experience in adding value to agricultural commodities, processing and entrepreneurship, marketing, industry, and developing agricultural cooperatives.
- Work experience in multiple field locations.
- Excellent communication skills in both Arabic and English; ability to communicate effectively under pressure.
- Strong self-motivation, results-oriented approach, and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to produce high-quality reports and accurately analyze monitoring and evaluation data.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions quickly and independently.
- High flexibility and ability to handle stressful situations.
Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS): The role holder is required to carry out the duties in adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standards, the values and principles outlined in BFD's policies such as Code of Conduct, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti-Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, Anti-Retaliation and other internal policies and guidelines.
