ADRA Yemen is undertaking programs in Yemen in the fields of health, nutrition, WASH, food security, livelihoods, and protection.

SUMMARY:

The MAMI Officer Project is responsible for coordinating and implementing all activities related to the Management of At-Risk Mothers and Infants (MAMI) approach within the Project. The role focuses on ensuring early identification, support, and follow-up of nutritionally and medically at-risk infants under six months and their mothers, strengthening the continuum of care from community to facility level. The officer will ensure that the MAMI approach is integrated into broader health and nutrition programming and works closely with ICCM, Health & Nutrition, Referral, and SBC Officers to promote holistic, family-centered care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The MAMI Officer will be responsible but not limited to:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and supervision of MAMI program activities in coordination with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator
  • Ensure early identification, referral, and management of nutritionally and medically at-risk infants under six months (U6M) and their mothers at community and facility levels.
  • Train and mentor health facility staff, community midwives (CMWs), and community health volunteers (CHVs) on MAMI assessment, counselling, and follow-up protocols.
  • Integrate MAMI activities with other project interventions including ICCM, Referral, IYCF, and Nutrition services for a holistic response.
  • Support health facilities in conducting growth monitoring, maternal nutrition screening, and promotion of optimal breastfeeding practices.
  • Ensure that MAMI data are accurately collected, recorded, and reported using national and project-specific tools.
  • Work closely with the Referral Officer to ensure timely referrals of high-risk cases and appropriate feedback from higher-level facilities.
  • Collaborate with SBC Officer to develop and deliver targeted health promotion and social behavior change messages related to maternal and infant care.
  • Conduct joint supervision and quality monitoring visits with DHOs, GHOs, and project teams to assess MAMI service quality and provide technical support.
  • Ensure alignment with national MAMI, IMAM, and IYCF guidelines, and contribute to updating SOPs and training materials as needed.
  • Support facility staff in maintaining adequate MAMI supplies, counselling materials, and reporting forms.
  • Ensure effective documentation of case studies, lessons learned, and success stories for reporting and learning purposes.
  • Prepare and submit timely progress reports (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) summarizing key achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Ensure that MAMI implementation incorporates safeguarding, gender equity, inclusion, and accountability principles in all interventions.
  • Adhere to the organization’s safeguarding framework, including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), child protection, anti-harassment, and ethical conduct policies, ensuring alignment with international standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard, UN CRC).
  • Promptly report safeguarding concerns or violations through designated channels, maintain confidentiality, and participate in mandatory safeguarding training to uphold a safe, inclusive environment for all stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Health and Nutrition Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree in health & nutrition, medicine, public health or equivalent. 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in nutrition and/ or public health.
  • In-depth understanding of MAMI, IYCF, and IMAM approaches and their integration in health and nutrition programming.
  • Experience in capacity building and supervision of health and community-level staff on maternal and infant health.
  • Strong coordination, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and nutrition data systems.
  • Commitment to humanitarian values, safeguarding, and professional ethics.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Having experience with ADRA is preferable and adds value
