Action Contre la Faim is an International Humanitarian Organization established in 1979 with the mission to save lives by combating hunger through prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and after emergency situations caused by conflict and natural disasters. Action Contre la Faim provides coordinated responses in nearly 50 countries including Yemen globally within 7 field of expertise which includes Nutrition and Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Security, Mental Health Care Practices, Gender and Protection, Advocacy, Risk and Disaster Management and Research.
ACF has been operational in Yemen since 2012 and is operational in 4 bases (Aden, Hodeida, Al khokha and Sanaa). The mission implements its activities which are centred on 3 sectors, Nutrition and Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Protection (MHPSS-P).

  • Job Title:  Head of Project-Psychologist– Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
  • Location:  Hodeida Base 
  • Contract duration: until 31st December 2026 with possibility of extension.
  • Basic monthly salary (taxable): 1747 $ to 2088 $ based on experience salary calculation (excluding other benefits offered by the organization)
  • Functional Manager: MHPSS Head of Department
  • Hierarchical Manager: Program Manager / Field Coordinator

Objective of the position :  

  • Support the management of MHPSS project, ensuring quality, relevance, and innovation in line with Action contre la Faim’ MHPSS strategy, international standards, and national policies, in close collaboration with the MHPSS Head of Department (or MHPSS Regional Technical Coordinator if applicable).
  • Provide MHPSS intervention in compliance with ACF’s protocols.

Mission 1: Contribute to the Definition of Action contre la Faim MHPSS Strategies and Positioning at Country Office

  • Promote integrated and cross-cutting approaches within the MHPSS program.
  • Contribute to the operational strategy in the intervention area and ensure its follow-up with hierarchical and functional managers.
  • Identify technical constraints related to project implementation and propose technical solutions with the support of the functional manager.

Mission 2: Coordinate and Support the Implementation of the MHPSS Project

  • Participate in defining, planning, and implementing project activities according to Action contre la Faim’ standards and procedures, under the authority of the hierarchical manager.
  • Ensure coordination of activities between the management team (field coordinator, program manager) and the MHPSS team, particularly by facilitating information flow and team animation.
  • Provides support in the follow-up of the MHPSS program budgets. 
  • Ensure the consolidation of basic information of beneficiaries and number of sessions’ attendance. 
  • Support the Program Manager in preparing, reviewing, and validating activity reports (internal or contractual).
  • Assist in launching and implementing MHPSS needs assessments and draft evaluation reports.
  • Propose new project directions based on identified gaps and needs.
  • Support the team by contributing to activities and providing MHPSS services as a psychologist.
  • Ensure joint and regular technical supervision of partners if applicable.
  • Supports capitalization and the historical continuity of MHPSS at the base level.
  • Collaborate with support departments for activity implementation (travel, logistics, budget, purchases, payments).

Mission 3: Manage and Supervise the MHPSS Project Team

  • Participate in the recruitment, management, and evaluation of the MHPSS project team.
  • Organize team work (schedules and responsibilities).
  • Identify and facilitate training needs with the functional manager.
  • Provide technical support to teams through evaluations, supervision and regular field visits.
  • Organize and lead team meetings and individual check-ins.
  • Facilitate information transfer between the functional manager and the MHPSS team.
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings.

Mission 4: Represent Action Against Hunger and Promote Its Positioning in the MHPSS Sector

  • Represent Action contre la Faim in meetings with health, social, and educational authorities, agencies, and local, regional, and national bodies.
  • Contribute to various MHPSS action plans (cluster strategy, technical groups, national committees).
  • Identify and promote local sectoral partnerships and monitor partnership agreements.
  • Promote Action contre la Faim’ strategy, positions, and protocols in the MHPSS sector to local, institutional, and academic partners.

Ensure adherence to ACF gender requirement; Commit and comply with ACF gender, age and diversity principles at anytime during activities; Support the implementation and the promotion of gender. 

Required Qualification, Skills and Professional Experience 

  • Education: License or Master degree in psychology or mental health.
  • Experience:, Experience in psychological consultation and/or psychotherapy, and 1 year of professional experience in a humanitarian and/or development project in the MHPSS sector.
  • Technical Skills: Project management, MHPSS needs and resource assessments, designing and implementing psychological and psychosocial interventions, information and report management, technology use, cross-sector collaboration.
  • Transversal Skills: English is an asset. 
    Effective communication, document writing, training facilitation, meeting and group work animation, active listening, work organization, tact and flexibility, deadline adherence, procedure explanation and enforcement, influence and persuasion, provider management, negotiation, archiving, knowledge capitalization and dissemination, professional network development, anticipation of needs and risks, reactivity, work rigor, confidentiality, creativity, and proposal strength.
