Purpose of the Position:

The Security and Safety Officer (SSO) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of SIF’s staff, premises, and operations in Yemen. Based in Aden, the SSO plays a key role in monitoring the local security context, supporting risk assessments, and implementing safety measures in coordination with relevant stakeholders. The position exists to support the continuity of operations in a secure environment and to help SIF manage its activities in line with safety protocols, national regulations, and donor requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Security and Safety Officer shall be responsible for the following tasks:

• Acts as a Safety & Security Focal Point.
• Monitor media, NGO/INSO security forums, and resources dedicated to security matters, and review daily news updates focused on significant humanitarian and security changes.
• Monitor Country staff movements.
• Monitor and manage all security guard services in SIF premises and field offices in Yemen.
• Support the Head of Mission in responding to security-related threats and emergencies affecting the Yemen Program. 
• Engage with local stakeholders, such as government officials, INGOs, UN, partners, and communities.
• Establish a coordinated security threat and risk assessment mechanism for all field operations and staff on the ground.
• Establish and maintain process mapping for security procedures and stakeholder mapping for political, security, and tribal purposes where applicable.
• Ensure readiness and proper equipment for security plans, such as relocation, hibernation, and evacuation.
• Ensure compliance with SIF standard operating procedures for safety and security procedures.
• Review and update security assessments for SIF offices and operations in coordination with the Head of Mission.
• Undertake regular and ad hoc safety assessments for existing and potential areas of intervention.
• Obtain all licenses and permissions required for SIF Yemen's activities, including vehicle movement permissions and manage the renewal process for all SIF Yemen staff.
• Identify safety learning and development needs of staff and deliver training if needed.
• Assist and support SIF expatriates even after working hours.
• Update and maintain a welcome pack containing relevant safety/health information. Provide appropriate briefing to staff and visitors.
• Travel as required outside of the work base office.
• Conduct interpretation and translation duties for international staff when required.

Other Responsibilities:

• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Completed Batchelor/Master’s degree in a relevant field such as management, Political/Social Science, International Humanitarian Law or Human Rights.
• At least 3 years of experience with INGO in a similar role.
• Proven ability to lead and work in a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent command of English (speaking and writing) is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable.
• Strong organizational and work planning skills, with the ability to work in a high-volume work environment.
• Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different cultural backgrounds.
• Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office, especially Excel and Word, as well as electronic communication.
