Project Background and Job Purpose:
This project aims to improve the livelihoods of local farmers and youth in Marib Governorate by enhancing agricultural practices and supporting sustainable income-generation. The project includes targeted training, distribution of inputs, and awareness activities to foster productivity and resilience in rural communities.
The Agriculture Officer will play a key role in coordinating, implementing, and supervising agricultural components of the project, ensuring the adoption of sustainable and climate-resilient practices among beneficiaries. This includes facilitating collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, identifying suitable assessment areas, selecting eligible beneficiaries, supervising the development of agricultural training curricula, overseeing the delivery of training to beneficiaries, and ensuring the quality and consistency of on-the-job training conducted through weekly field visits by agricultural consultants. The role aims to enhance agricultural knowledge and practices among local beneficiaries, contributing to improved productivity and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Coordination and Implementation:
- Coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and local authorities to ensure alignment with national strategies and effective field-level collaboration.
- Participate in the identification of targeted agricultural areas and farmers according to project selection criteria.
- Work closely with the project team and local stakeholders to select eligible beneficiaries and support transparent targeting.
- Ensure the development and contextualization of a training curriculum aligned with sustainable and climate-smart agriculture.
- Coordinate with agricultural consultants and experts to deliver high-quality, practical training sessions to farmers.
- Supervise the planning, delivery, and documentation of training and field demonstration activities.
- Organize and facilitate field visits and on-site training with technical specialists and local extension workers.
- Oversee the distribution of agricultural inputs, ensuring alignment with donor guidelines and quality assurance standards.
Monitoring and Quality Assurance:
- Monitor and evaluate agricultural interventions to ensure quality and effectiveness.
- Track and report on adoption rates of best practices and productivity improvements.
- Prepare periodic reports on agricultural performance, highlighting lessons learned and recommendations for improvement.
- Support MEAL staff with data collection, outcome tracking, and feedback integration.
Field Engagement and Representation:
- Maintain regular presence in the field to ensure timely and quality implementation.
- Represent Altwasul at coordination meetings with stakeholders, including local authorities, farmer groups, partners, and the FSAC Cluster.
- Identify opportunities for program development and scaling of successful interventions.
Administrative and Reporting Support:
- Prepare timely technical and narrative reports for submission to the Project Manager.
- Archive all data and documents related to the project in line with Altwasul's data management standards.
- Assist in preparing financial documentation related to training sessions, volunteers, and casual labor payments.
- Coordinate procurement and logistics needs related to agricultural activities with relevant departments.
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in agriculture/livelihoods projects, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
- At least 4 years of experience working with INGOs or national NGOs in field-based roles.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, climate-resilient farming, and community-based extension.
- Excellent reporting skills and proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Strong interpersonal, coordination, and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Toolbox).
- Ability to work in rural settings, travel frequently, and manage multiple field activities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, work independently, and meet tight deadlines under pressure.
